In today's sketch I mean to celebrate the returning of the sun to the Northern Hemisphere. This is a big event in rural and urban India, and is celebrated throughout the country with many festivities and pujas that commemorate the sun's return. This is preceded by the festival of getting rid of rubbish in style: making big bon-fires and making space for the new by getting rid of the old.
The cyclic ebb and flow is honoured; the cold winter gives way to new life and spring. In our own lives, let us get rid of stuff that we have outgrown and do not need. The time to make space for the new has arrived. The sun provides all living things with the energy they require to grow. Let us go into this period of growth well prepared for all that awaits us.
