Taking the time to relax

Today I show you a sketch I did of the foliage I can see from my kitchen window in my atelier. The sun was shining and the emerald green of the leaves and the golden light of the sun shining through them was simply irresistible.
As I relax on a warm sunny afternoon, my thoughts went back to the greens I saw. This helped me appreciate the time I had, enjoying the sun on my skin in a sea of green and a gentle breeze blowing all my cares away. Taking the time to relax and spend time with nature helps me unwind really.
Have a blessed Sunday and a great week ahead. Much light!

The age of Aquarius

I made this sketch in Antibes, in a romantic side street ending in a small place complete with a Baroque fountain. This fish was gurgling water out through its mouth.
I am sure the sculptors were celebrating the end of the Age of Pisces and the dawn of the Age of Aquarius.
Popularly the Age of Aquarius heralds an upsurge in the rise of Science and Technology, of Human Rights, of Gender Equality and in the downfall of the hold religions had on Human Civilizations. Hope then, that we are really in the Age of Aquarius and that we will see an ebbing of the Islamic State and its supporters.
Wishing you all a happy Sunday. Much light!

Our Source

Today I'd like to share with you a sketch I did while contemplating on the word "Love".
This was a sort of an exercise that many artists do: allow oneself to create without the conscious effort to create. I was quite surprised at this result.
Our physical selves are to me, manifestations of the one thing all of us share: our connections to the Source. While we may be unaware of this connection, it is a fact, tangible or intangible. Having glimpses of this connection from time to time is bliss.
Have a great week end.

Nicolas de Staël

I discovered Nicolas de Staël through this languid nude hanging at the Picasso Museum in Antibes, France. I admire his instinctive sense of colour and spaces and his simple but essential use of lines. Although I drew this with the humble (yet mighty) graphite pencil, I can still recall the intense use of colour and contrast on this one. Despite the high contrast the image of this languid nude conveys a sense of rest and respite and of no hurry at all.

Another attempt at capturing my husband

Here is another attempt to capture my husband on paper. I used a twig from a long walk and a favourite medium: China ink! Hope you like it!

I am an artist. I live and work in Berlin.
I started to paint colour fields (very much inspired by Mark Rothko and other American Abstract Expressionists) and now have evolved into an admirer of the Bauhaus Movement. I am still  a seeker: minimalist concrete art finds resonance in me, while the rich colours and traditional art forms of my home country that flow in me and breathe in me, also find expression in my work.
My work, I believe is a synthesis of all these influences and seeming contradictions. I am now knocking a dent into concrete art, non objectively so to speak! I work serially and can endlessly look for emerging patterns in my work.
This has been a wonderful journey, and as they say: the path is the destination.
In my blog posts, I am letting you have a peek over my shoulder, into my sketch books and small works, which will someday flow into my big canvases and other works; works that I will actually display or exhibit (or may be not).
My blog posts are more about my process and what motivates me to paint and create.
