Sketchbook Interpretations IV

In this week's post I present to you a work (Pastels and charcoal on wood veneer 20 x 20 cm) that evolved directly off my sketchbook.
I love working on wood. The surface has that sublime quality that only nature can make. The restricted and reduced palette offer great contrast and subtle touch. The transparency and the hard edges come together in a contradictory, yet in a wholesome manner.
Much light and stay safe!

After a two week Easter break, I present to you two more patterns from my sketch book.
They were processed in a similar process as that used by Josef Frank. Here I am still with growth as a process and as a cyclic concept.
Much light!

Support for local businesses

This week's post is an appeal.
The closure of many businesses due to the outbreak of the Corona Virus is posing an existential threat to them.
This applies to many galleries and art institutions as well. Although the German State has stepped in and offered a respite from complete bankruptcy, many are of the opinion that the bouncing back will be a very challenging issue.
To help keep the finances flowing the "Tagesspiegel", a daily in Berlin has started an initiative called the "Kiezhelfer": an internet portal for vouchers posted by businesses, that can be exchanged for goods or services from this beneficiary business at a later point in time.
In an effort to keep the Akademie für Malerei going, Ute Wöllmann has joined this initiative. You can buy vouchers for art courses or works of art like the one posted this week (Charcoal and pastels on paper 12 x 12 cm) at this link.
Support art! Support artists! Support local businesses!
Much light!

I am an artist. I live and work in Berlin.
I started to paint colour fields (very much inspired by Mark Rothko and other American Abstract Expressionists) and now have evolved into an admirer of the Bauhaus Movement. I am still  a seeker: minimalist concrete art finds resonance in me, while the rich colours and traditional art forms of my home country that flow in me and breathe in me, also find expression in my work.
My work, I believe is a synthesis of all these influences and seeming contradictions. I am now knocking a dent into concrete art, non objectively so to speak! I work serially and can endlessly look for emerging patterns in my work.
This has been a wonderful journey, and as they say: the path is the destination.
In my blog posts, I am letting you have a peek over my shoulder, into my sketch books and small works, which will someday flow into my big canvases and other works; works that I will actually display or exhibit (or may be not).
My blog posts are more about my process and what motivates me to paint and create.
