Concrete Art II

In my sign off post for this year, I present to you a pencil sketch done on a beer coaster (9.5 x 9.5 cm). This is again a part of a series and I am experimenting with simple geometric forms. I like to think I am establishing myself as an artist in the area of concrete art.
For this series, I decided to start of with the circle, which is symbolic for wholeness, perfection and timelessness.
As this year draws to a close, I wish each one of you and myself that time and space to be in the present and to be grateful for all that we have in that time and space.
Much light, looking forward to 2019!

Albers, Martin and Mohamedi

From different worlds and yet so alike!
While researching and searching for material for a presentation on my works, I came across an artist from India, Nasreen Mohamedi, whose line drawings are so out of this world, subtle and have an ethereal quality that I have only seen in the works of Agnes Martin and Josef Albers.
In contrast, my own drawings are down to earth. But as they say: practice makes perfect and I have a long way to go.
Much light!

Here is another work on paper (20 x 20 cms) from my Colour Fields Series. Very similar, yet worlds apart.
I love the intense colours and contrasts and the depth these works have. I place them in triptychs and never tire of looking at them. I have trouble deciding, which of them I should take to the framers.
Much light!

This week's work is simply what I love to do: Rolling colour on to paper.
These small and subtle works take long in the making, since I am just applying left over paint on paper and there are millions of these lying around in my atelier waiting for the next layer.
I do not like to waste pigments and this is the last thing I will typically do when I wind up work on any given day.
Much light!

I am an artist. I live and work in Berlin.
I started to paint colour fields (very much inspired by Mark Rothko and other American Abstract Expressionists) and now have evolved into an admirer of the Bauhaus Movement. I am still  a seeker: minimalist concrete art finds resonance in me, while the rich colours and traditional art forms of my home country that flow in me and breathe in me, also find expression in my work.
My work, I believe is a synthesis of all these influences and seeming contradictions. I am now knocking a dent into concrete art, non objectively so to speak! I work serially and can endlessly look for emerging patterns in my work.
This has been a wonderful journey, and as they say: the path is the destination.
In my blog posts, I am letting you have a peek over my shoulder, into my sketch books and small works, which will someday flow into my big canvases and other works; works that I will actually display or exhibit (or may be not).
My blog posts are more about my process and what motivates me to paint and create.
