Roots III

Today, I would like to show you what is becoming of my "Roots" idea. I like the way this concept is progressing. I continued with my sketches during my vacation in Stockholm, where I was fortunate enough to see the works of the Textile Designer Josef Frank in original. He was an architect who started to paint and design fabrics later in his life.
I am truly inspired by his designs and choice of colours. Hope that someday I will have the means to do something similar.

A closet full of shoes and yet...

I have a shoe tick. Despite my closet full of shoes I end up wearing my most comfortable "sole" companions almost always. In many ways we are all creatures of habit.
But as they say, life happens just outside our comfort zone. So here is to getting out there and to enjoying sporting those "zing" things from the closet!

In continuation of my last post two weeks ago, I would like to show you another page from my sketchbook. In this sketch I have taken the idea of the roots from my tree and taken it a step further. Am keen on seeing where this takes me.

Aruna Samivelu

I am an artist. I live and work in Berlin.
I started to paint colour fields (very much inspired by Mark Rothko and other American Abstract Expressionists) and now have evolved into an admirer of the Bauhaus Movement. I am still a seeker: minimalist concrete art finds resonance in me, while the rich colours and traditional art forms of my home country that flow in me and breathe in me, also find expression in my work.
My work, I believe is a synthesis of all these influences and seeming contradictions. I am now knocking a dent into concrete art, non objectively so to speak! I work serially and can endlessly look for emerging patterns in my work.
This has been a wonderful journey, and as they say: the path is the destination.
In my blog posts, I am letting you have a peek over my shoulder, into my sketch books and small works, which will someday flow into my big canvases and other works; works that I will actually display or exhibit (or may be not).
My blog posts are more about my process and what motivates me to paint and create.
