Another water colour portrait

Here is another water colour portrait I did: this time my husband. I think the proportions are not as my art teacher would have liked them to be, but I am happy with the lines and the "bleed" mixing of colours. I thought I would talk about the technique and why I chose to do them. I found a piece of paper that another student had obviously discarded and on this piece of paper there was a step by step instruction on how to create water colour portraits. I just followed them to get these portraits. I worked with photos on my mobile device.
Have a nice weekend and a good start into the next week. Much light!

Unconditional love

I have had the good fortune to experience unconditional love in this life time. This is a portrait of my older sibling who has been a special child and now a special person: a person capable of giving love unconditionally.
She has kept our family relationships intact and shown us the things that really matter in life, for e.g. the blessing of experiencing unconditional love everyday.

Challenging responsibility

Today I am posting a water colour portrait of my 10 year old son.
I consider myself a normal, down to earth person (I confess, I tend toward  being a tiny bit neurotic: I worry sometimes and am working on this negative trait). But when it comes to remaining calm and balanced regarding decisions about my son, I find it very challenging: this cheerful and lively, bubbly child turns into a monster when it comes to choosing clothes to wear, or when it is time to turn away from all those electronic devices children use today and do something else like reading, practicing for music lessons or sometimes even speaking in a normal tone of voice.
Some tell me this is a normal process of growing up!
Any suggestions as to how I can master this challenging responsibility of remaining a balanced and sane soul? I love him to the end of the world!

Roots again!

In summer last year I was working on a small series of works that were developed by using autonomous symbols: I chose a multi pronged shape that to me were roots. I was obsessed (still am) with the beauty of how trees sap their nutrients from the soil and according to latest research even communicate with each other using their roots.
We as human beings are "rooted" in many ways: in our families, friends, beliefs and faith, in our support of political parties and in many more countless number of ways.
Each of these make us what and who we are. And in a way that we are yet to fathom, we are all connected to each other at a very fundamental level.

I am an artist. I live and work in Berlin.
I started to paint colour fields (very much inspired by Mark Rothko and other American Abstract Expressionists) and now have evolved into an admirer of the Bauhaus Movement. I am still  a seeker: minimalist concrete art finds resonance in me, while the rich colours and traditional art forms of my home country that flow in me and breathe in me, also find expression in my work.
My work, I believe is a synthesis of all these influences and seeming contradictions. I am now knocking a dent into concrete art, non objectively so to speak! I work serially and can endlessly look for emerging patterns in my work.
This has been a wonderful journey, and as they say: the path is the destination.
In my blog posts, I am letting you have a peek over my shoulder, into my sketch books and small works, which will someday flow into my big canvases and other works; works that I will actually display or exhibit (or may be not).
My blog posts are more about my process and what motivates me to paint and create.
