The precise angles exist not only in the plant world, but also in the animal world. And at every level: at the microscopic and the macroscopic. The world around is full of such wonders, if we are willing to see.
Much light!
This week I present to you a drawing after Chris Meechan showing the plant known as "Bärenklau" in German. This drawing caught my attention, because it detailed the way the stem orients itself and grows out in a particular direction with a very precise angle. This is what I have been observing in plant life and attempt to portray in my work: the angles. And the ratios! The precise angles exist not only in the plant world, but also in the animal world. And at every level: at the microscopic and the macroscopic. The world around is full of such wonders, if we are willing to see. Much light!

This week's post is a quick sketch of found leaves and twigs. Autumn is drawing to a close and the very cool temperatures make for a dirty grey colour. The sun breaks through on occasion, and on these days the fall colours achieve an intensity that is hard to match. I also take this opportunity to invite friends and colleagues in Berlin to visit me in my atelier on the Open Ateliers Weekend in Neukölln. Much light! For today I decided to post two more pages from my sketchbook. In the near future I will find a way of putting these jottings on to canvas. I like the rhythms and I like the contrasts. Much light! (PS: In the next weeks I am opening my atelier to join other artists showing their work, their process to the public in the Neukölln Area in Berlin. Would be happy to see you all) I often sketch "found" objects. Doing this is meditation for me. I found this feather on a walk and this inspiring quote by Anita Sams in the internet: Let me be as a feather Strong with purpose Yet light at heart Able to bend And, tho' I might Become frayed Able to pull myself Together again! If you want to fly, throw away the things that weigh you down... or train those muscles... ;) Much light! |
