Rhythmic Movement VI

Today's sketch is from my smallest sketch book.
It is quick and fun to use and a useful tool to have around and jot things down quickly. It is about 7 x 7 cm.
Here I jotted down some lines, varying them not only in their thickness, but also in their tint and shade and their temperature. Perhaps a little too much variation and movement after all!
Much light (Addendum: first sketch done in my new space)!

Deviating yet again from my practice  of posting sketches, I post today a work done on un-primed cotton (approx. 60 x 200 cm) using ink and oil pastels (something I use very rarely).
I like the movement and contrast in the work and the sense of calm and balance it exudes when one is front of it. Another of my favourites!
Much light!

Today I present to you an abstract work from 2015.
The process itself was interesting and an eye opening experience for me: we had a pile of used cartons in the centre and each of us rendered this pile of cartons as exactly as we could. First as a pencil sketch, and then in a coloured rendition. We were allowed to use one set of contrast colours and shades of white and grey.
Next came the destruction (deconstruction) and a new ordering of the coloured shapes into any rhythm that was pleasing to the eye.
Much light!

I post a work from late 2013 or early 2014 done with Sabine Burmester.
She works with materials and I was inspired to use all the "found" pieces of "garbage" that I had.
I found this wonderful piece of work jumping out at me as I was packing all my stuff to move to my new studio space. I had used some "rusting fluid" on the surface and it is beginning to show, making the work come alive.
I realised that when I am not working on my big formats, I invariably choose the square. I love the rhythmic movement that this work has.
Much light!

I am an artist. I live and work in Berlin.
I started to paint colour fields (very much inspired by Mark Rothko and other American Abstract Expressionists) and now have evolved into an admirer of the Bauhaus Movement. I am still  a seeker: minimalist concrete art finds resonance in me, while the rich colours and traditional art forms of my home country that flow in me and breathe in me, also find expression in my work.
My work, I believe is a synthesis of all these influences and seeming contradictions. I am now knocking a dent into concrete art, non objectively so to speak! I work serially and can endlessly look for emerging patterns in my work.
This has been a wonderful journey, and as they say: the path is the destination.
In my blog posts, I am letting you have a peek over my shoulder, into my sketch books and small works, which will someday flow into my big canvases and other works; works that I will actually display or exhibit (or may be not).
My blog posts are more about my process and what motivates me to paint and create.
