Season's Greetings

This is a sketch I started in November this year and completed about three weeks later. At the time of writing this post, Chennai my home city in India, is being threatened by a cyclonic storm, and my thoughts wander back to this time last year when Chennai was staggering back to normalcy after being lashed by the mother of all storms since a 100 years.
None of us is invincible, none of us is indispensible! So the precious moments we spend together must count in every way. Let us make each moment meaningful, because we are blessed with life every moment. Let us count our blessings and be happy that we have that someone in our lives. Even if it is not that obvious, each of has the all encompassing Source in us, that goes to make each of us, and connects us in a way that we are unable to fathom at this moment.
As I sign off for this year, I would like to wish each one of us a Season of rejuvenation and being reborn. Welcome 2017 with gratitude for all that we had in 2016. Gratitude begets more, so let us be sure to be thankful for our blessings.

Togetherness

Today, I am deviating a bit from my habit of posting sketches that I do. Today I feel like sharing a small painting I did two years ago with the title "Togetherness"!
During the blaring lead up to Christmas every year I feel like stressing on the importance of the humane touch in our lives. Isn't that what Christmas is about and all other religious festivals we have created for ourselves? To be caring, to be there for one another, to be joyous and happy?
Why don't we start to look for the things that bind us?

Dark, gray and barren days

It's colder, darker and grayer in Berlin these days. Although one is tempted to start being whiny, it pays to think of this necessary time in the natural order of things. Its time to rest, turn inward and rejuvenate oneself for the next turn in the cycle: Spring. It is like being reborn.
So watch for that first sprig of green and of new promise! Much light!

Aruna Samivelu

I am an artist. I live and work in Berlin.
I started to paint colour fields (very much inspired by Mark Rothko and other American Abstract Expressionists) and now have evolved into an admirer of the Bauhaus Movement. I am still a seeker: minimalist concrete art finds resonance in me, while the rich colours and traditional art forms of my home country that flow in me and breathe in me, also find expression in my work.
My work, I believe is a synthesis of all these influences and seeming contradictions. I am now knocking a dent into concrete art, non objectively so to speak! I work serially and can endlessly look for emerging patterns in my work.
This has been a wonderful journey, and as they say: the path is the destination.
In my blog posts, I am letting you have a peek over my shoulder, into my sketch books and small works, which will someday flow into my big canvases and other works; works that I will actually display or exhibit (or may be not).
My blog posts are more about my process and what motivates me to paint and create.
