Uriel Birnbaum was an Austrian caricaturist. This particular sketch I did hangs in the Salzburg Museum and was done as a reaction to the First World War: The face of death. The delicate lines he created with the tiny dots are a stark contrast to the movement he evokes and the heaviness and melancholy his caricature evokes. A visit to this museum was an eye opener to the violent times Salzburg and Austria has been through. The scenic beauty of this country
veils it's sad history.
