Matisse, who also lived in the French Riviera, was another prolific creator. He is known today for his paper cut outs which he created after being diagnosed with cancer and during his last creative phase in his life. In this time he also created stained glass panels for a monastery church and what sort of goes unnoticed today are his early works: sketches, line drawings, sculptures, still life, city scapes which capture the joie de vivre. This is a sketch I made of a section of his original work on Achilles wearing his sandals. Loved doing the sketch ;)
