I did this sketch of Klimt's nude this summer. I was in this little art shop selling books on famous (and not so famous) artists and chanced on Klimt's biography and works. Klimt did many sketches of nudes. The last one I posted was male and was very expressionistic in its conveyance of this sense of helplessness and vulnerability. Then I chanced on this female nude and had to do it, because this conveys and exudes to me this sense of self confidence and a successful hold on oneself even in the most jarring moment of baring oneself in all one's intimacy and vulnerability: the subject is, to me, daring and challenging the viewer to look past her vulnerable situation and try and fathom her inner being.
In our own moments of vulnerability I pray that we learn this art of mastering the lessons that vulnerability teaches us.
